CAIRN GROOMING

The Cairn Terrier is a dog that has hard and weather resistant hair.  It has no shedding time. A lot of people with allergies look for a Cairn or an Airedale because they believe its an hypo-allergenic dog.   Cairn or Airedale cause less problems than most dogs but they are not perfect and some people do  have a reaction.  However it requires a weekly brushing is necessary to aerate its fleece.

The stripping of a Cairn amounts to an esthetic preoccupation in order to show its anatomy and its nobility.  It also serves as a protective shield against the cold and a carapace against aggressions conducted by its prey.  In order to participate in dog shows, the Cairn must be stripped.  Various techniques are being used.  Stripping is an art that requires time and patience.  Use a piece of lava rock to strip out the outer coat or stripping knive (coarse).

The hygienic care you will have to give your CairnCairns are more prone to skin problems than are many other breeds. You can prevent the skin problem with  GROOMING Stripping or clipping 4 times a year.  You must clean them every week to prevent problems.  A good brushing is necessary in order to remove dead hair from the Cairn fleece.  Since there is no shedding, the dead hairs stay imprisoned and by so doing they prevent the skin from breathing.  It is the same for the under hair or undercoat.

In order to keep your Cairn in good health, you must commit a weekly  grooming.  You must clip its nails, clean the eyes and the ears, brush the hair and teeth and carry out a general examination in order to disclose wounds and other sickness symptoms. What is more important is to teach your Cairn to be handled while very young.  Never forget that a good dog biscuit will always make the job easier.
